Why it’s a Weeknight Watch

With almost no lasting buzz and a lukewarm 6.1 out of 10 from audiences, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Made for romantics and anyone who wants a laugh. If you loved Say Anything... or 10 Things I Hate About You, start here. Critics rate it higher than audiences do, so it rewards patience more than it chases thrills.
The mood
Funny with heart, romantic.
The pace
Takes its time with its characters, at 1 hr 32 min.
What might put you off
Rated PG-13. Probably too much for younger kids.

Dueling high school debate champs who are at odds on just about everything forge ahead with ambitious plans to get into the colleges of their dreams.
