Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: Aimed squarely at people who love a good family story and people who like stories about real, flawed people. Anyone with siblings or parents will recognize something here.
The mood: Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace: Gives its people room to develop, at 1 hr 23 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
What might put you off: It's in Spanish, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

Elena comes back to Ecuador to help her father overcome his illness. She spends most of her time between drugs and alcohol. While visiting her grandpa in the Andes Elena gets involved in the fight for water access in an indigenous community. She gradually understands that among family secrets, corruption and dark perversions commitment and beauty can emerge.
