With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- If you count yourself among anyone who likes life-or-death stakes every episode and anyone who wants something that moves them, this one's for you. Life-and-death stakes, often at a run. Sits nicely alongside Love Story or The Theory of Everything. It's about loss, handled with care rather than melodrama.
- The mood
- Emotional (bring tissues), warm and romantic.
- The pace
- Lets scenes breathe, at 2 hr 5 min.
- What might put you off
- It's in Japanese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Skip it if romance makes you roll your eyes.
