Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
If you count yourself among anyone who wants something that moves them and people who like stories about real, flawed people, this one's for you. It's about loss, handled with care rather than melodrama.
The mood
Emotional (bring tissues).
The pace
Takes its time with its characters, at 1 hr 19 min. An easy one to fit in on a school night.
What might put you off
  • It's in Spanish, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

Jose is a biologist who suddenly needs to return to his hometown because his mother has passed away. She left him a large inheritance with a very important message: He must accomplish the expectations she had for him in life. Jose falls in love with Estela, his teenage neighbor, whose father has serious money problems and is also terribly sick.
