Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe
With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- A natural pick for people who like a story that's man versus the elements and fans of newsroom stories. The tension comes from simply getting through the next day. Fans of The Post or All the President's Men should feel right at home. It's about the digging, and what it costs to get the story.
- The mood
- Thoughtful and character-driven.
- The pace
- Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 2 hr.
- What might put you off
- It's in Italian, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.
June 27, 1980: a DC–9 flying over the Tyrrhenian Sea breaks up mid-air and crashes near the Italian island of Ustica, killing all 81 people on board. The official version blames the "structural failure" of the plane, but a young journalist smells a cover-up and starts to uncover the truth out of the 'invisible wall' of lies built by politicians and air force higher-ups.
