Why it’s a Weeknight Watch

With a lukewarm 6.1 out of 10 from audiences and little lasting buzz, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: Made for anyone who wants a laugh. If you loved The Edge of Seventeen or American Fiction, start here. Critics rate it higher than audiences do, so it rewards patience more than it chases thrills.
The mood: Funny with heart.
The pace: Takes its time with its characters, at 1 hr 30 min.
What might put you off: Rated R: meant for adults.

Everybody has one—the sibling who is always just a little bit behind the curve when it comes to getting his life together. For sisters Liz, Miranda and Natalie, that person is their perennially upbeat brother, Ned. But as each of their lives begins to unravel, Ned's family comes to realise that Ned isn't such an idiot after all.
