Weeknight WatchWhy it’s a Weeknight Watch
With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Tailor-made for anyone with a complicated family (so, everyone) and people ready for a good cry. Family ties get tested in ways that ring true. Fans of War of the Worlds should feel right at home. It's about loss, handled with care rather than melodrama.
- The mood
- Exciting.
- The pace
- Moves at a clip, at 1 hr 33 min.
- What might put you off
- Rated PG-13: a parent's death or loss and peril. Probably too much for younger kids.
- It's in Chinese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Skip it if you prefer quiet, talky stories.
Tianhuo Island is as beautiful as a paradise. It almost makes people forget that it is located in the "Ring of Fire" the world-famous Pacific Rim volcanic belt. The volcano erupts, and the fates of the people on the island are entangled.
