Day of the Animals
Seen it?1977 | 97 min | Science Fiction, Horror
Why it’s a Weeknight Watch
It made about 6 times its budget, but middling reviews (40% on Rotten Tomatoes) and little lasting buzz held it back. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Made for anyone who's ever wondered how they'd survive and animal lovers. The tension comes from simply getting through the next day. Shelve it next to Alien: Romulus or Resident Evil. An animal steals a fair few scenes.
- The mood
- Scary.
- The pace
- Keeps the tension tight, at 1 hr 37 min.
- What might put you off
- Rated PG. Worth a look first if you have very young kids.
- Made in 1977: an older pace and style.
- Skip it if you like your stories firmly grounded in the real world.
The depletion of the earth's ozone layer causes animals above the altitude of 5000 feet to run amok, which is very unfortunate for a group of hikers who get dropped off up there by helicopter just before the quarantine is announced.
