With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Great for people who'll be looking things up afterwards and anyone who likes learning something new. Based on real events, so expect to go down a research rabbit hole afterwards. Steeped in the 1980s, from the music to the hair.
- The mood
- Eye-opening.
- The pace
- Well paced for a documentary, at 55 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
- What might put you off
- It's in French, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Skip it if you want made-up drama tonight.
An intimate portrait, in his own words, of the Indian writer Salman Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses (1988), thirty years after the fatwa uttered by the Iranian Ayatollah Khomeini: his youth in multicultural Bombay, his life in England, his many years of forced hiding, his thoughts on President Trump's United States of America.
