Sunday Safe Betearly rating

Why it’s a Sunday Safe Bet

Critics loved it (100% on Rotten Tomatoes), though it had almost no lasting buzz and soft box office. A safe bet when you want something reliable.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Made for anyone with a best friend they'd call at 3am and anyone who likes a story with emotional weight. The friendships are the beating heart of it. More of a critics' pick than a crowd-pleaser: worth it if you like something a little different.
The mood
Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace
Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 1 hr 17 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
What might put you off
  • It's in Korean, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Audiences were cooler on it than critics.
  • Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

While her husband is on a business trip, Gamhee meets three of her friends. She visits the first two at their homes, and the third she encounters by chance at a theater. While they make friendly conversation, as always, several currents flow independently above and below the surface of the sea.
