Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
One for anyone in the mood for a love story and people who like stories about real, flawed people. Paris does a lot of the work, and it looks wonderful. Fans of Vicky Cristina Barcelona should feel right at home.
The mood
Warm and romantic.
The pace
Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 1 hr 38 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in another language, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Skip it if romance makes you roll your eyes.

Jojo, a Filipino artist in Paris who has had many lovers, but constantly finds himself desperate to fill the chasm in his life occupied by the mysterious muse of his paintings. For years, his heart is held captive by a woman with no name and no history. Like a compass, Jojo looks for her in every girl he meets, hoping she will be “the one.” One day, a woman named Marie, walks up to Jojo and claims to be the subject of his paintings.
