With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Right up the alley of people who like a story that's man versus the elements and people who like the lights on afterwards. The tension comes from simply getting through the next day. Liked Beetlejuice or Death Becomes Her? This is a good next one. The scares come from the creaks and shadows as much as the jumps.
- The mood
- Scary.
- The pace
- Keeps the tension tight, at 1 hr 30 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
- What might put you off
- Rated PG. Worth a look first if you have very young kids.
- Skip it if you scare easily or watch alone at night.
Frederic Lansing is a writer who hopes to find inspiration while vacationing in Hellview, Oregon; however, the lighthouse in which he's staying is haunted by the ghost of Venetia, who had killed herself 100 years ago and now wants to use Lansing as a vessel for her dead husband, Captain Howdy. When Howdy's ghost starts killing people, two bumbling scientists are brought in to investigate the history of the lighthouse and solve the case.
