Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Great for anyone who likes corsets, castles and court intrigue and people who'll be looking things up afterwards. The costumes and settings are a feast on their own. Shelve it next to Maestro or An Officer and a Gentleman. Based on real events, so expect to go down a research rabbit hole afterwards.
The mood
Warm and romantic.
The pace
Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 1 hr 56 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Portuguese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Skip it if romance makes you roll your eyes.

The singer Dalva de Oliveira and the composer Herivelto Martins lived intensely on the stage and in life. The 13 years of marriage and the disagreements, which gained emphasis with the separation, contributed to an important artistic and cultural production.
