Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
If you count yourself among music lovers and history and war-film fans, this one's for you. The music is woven into the story, not just laid on top. Sits nicely alongside The Guns of Navarone or Hairspray. It puts you in the middle of the fighting, and doesn't let you forget the cost.
The mood
Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace
Character-first and patient, at 1 hr 19 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
What might put you off
  • It's in another language, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Made in 1952: an older pace and style.
  • Skip it if you need something light and fast tonight.

However, the inhabitants refuse to work for the lords, and their solidarity only strengthens when one of them is murdered by the Gestapo based on a report by the estate manager Prokeš...
