Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe
With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Aimed squarely at anyone interested in what war does to people and the curious. It puts you in the middle of the fighting, and doesn't let you forget the cost.
- The mood
- Eye-opening.
- The pace
- Moves through the story clearly, at 48 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
- What might put you off
- It's in Dutch, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Skip it if you want made-up drama tonight.
From 1940, around 25,000 Dutch people served in the Waffen-SS. In spite of their large number, they did not make much public disclosure after the war. Eight Dutch former SS men tell their story in this documentary. Never before have former SS men talked so openly about their motives, their (wrong) acts, their experiences on the (Eastern) front and their struggle with the memories of the past.
