Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Aimed squarely at food lovers and anyone drawn to the darker side of the street. Don't watch it hungry. Fans of Coffy should feel right at home.
The mood
Tense, gritty.
The pace
Wastes no time getting going, at 1 hr 44 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Cantonese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Skip it if you prefer quiet, talky stories.

This is director/martial arts star Frankie Chan's unofficial remake of the Kinji Fukasaku film SHOGUN'S SAMURAI (1978). Instead of Japanese samurai in a period setting, we get modern day Chinese gangsters battling each other for the position left vacant after the mysterious death of their head honcho.
