Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe
With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- A natural pick for anyone who likes secrets inside secrets and anyone who likes a story with a soundtrack worth keeping. Nobody is quite who they seem. Same wavelength as Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me or Moonage Daydream. The music is woven into the story, not just laid on top.
- The mood
- Eye-opening.
- The pace
- Moves through the story clearly, at 1 hr. Done before bedtime.
- What might put you off
- It's in Portuguese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Made in 1969: an older pace and style.
- Skip it if you want made-up drama tonight.
Documentary about Brazilian music circa 1969, with extremely rare scenes, such as the only color footage of Pixinguinha, images of João da Baiana, one of the fathers of Samba, Maria Bethânia rehearsing at Barroco nightclub, Baden Powell playing his acoustic guitar, Paulinho da Viola showing his masterpiece "Coisas do Mundo, Minha Nega", that he had just finished, and Márcia, a singer from São Paulo.
