Why it’s a Weeknight Watch

With rough reviews, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: Made for sci-fi fans, action fans and families. Audiences love it more than critics do: a crowd-pleaser first.
The mood: Feel-good.
The pace: 8 seasons, but most episodes stand on their own, so you can dip in anywhere (about 24 minutes each).
What might put you off: Rated TV-Y7. Worth a look first if you have very young kids.
Critics were cooler on it than audiences.

Set 1,300 years after the events of How to Train Your Dragon, dragons are now just a legend to the modern world. When a geological anomaly opens an immense, miles-deep fissure in the Earth’s surface, scientists from all over the world gather at a new research facility to study the mysterious phenomenon. Soon a group of misfit kids, brought to the site by their parents, uncover the truth about dragons and where they’ve been hiding -- a secret they must keep to themselves to protect what they’ve discovered.
