Why it’s a Saturday Special

It earned strong reviews (89% on Rotten Tomatoes), it won an Emmy and it held a wide audience for several seasons. A strong pick for the weekend.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: Made for crime-drama fans and anyone who wants a laugh. If you loved The Mentalist or Magnum, P.I., start here. Critics rate it higher than audiences do, so it rewards patience more than it chases thrills.
The mood: Funny with heart.
The pace: 8 seasons and 120 episodes: a long-haul commitment, episodes of about 43 minutes, about 86 hours in all.
What might put you off: Rated TV-PG. Worth a look first if you have very young kids.
A big time investment at 8 seasons.

Thanks to his police officer father's efforts, Shawn Spencer spent his childhood developing a keen eye for detail (and a lasting dislike of his dad). Years later, Shawn's frequent tips to the police lead to him being falsely accused of a crime he solved. Now, Shawn has no choice but to use his abilities to perpetuate his cover story: psychic crime-solving powers, all the while dragging his best friend, his dad, and the police along for the ride.
