Sunday Safe Betearly rating

Why it’s a Sunday Safe Bet

People are still talking about it and it earned strong reviews (78% on Rotten Tomatoes), though it had a lukewarm 6.2 out of 10 from audiences. A safe bet when you want something reliable.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: Made for anyone who likes to be kept guessing. If you loved Riverdale or Twin Peaks, start here. Critics rate it higher than audiences do, so it rewards patience more than it chases thrills.
The mood: Tense and unsettling.
The pace: One season: easy to finish in a weekend or two, episodes of about 44 minutes, about 6 hours in all.
What might put you off: Rated TV-MA: expect violence and sex.
Audiences were cooler on it than critics.

A small-town cop suspects that the local school for troubled teens — and its dangerously charismatic founder — may not be all it seems.
