Saturday Special

Why it’s a Saturday Special

Critics loved it (97% on Rotten Tomatoes) and it's still drawing plenty of interest. A strong pick for the weekend.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: Made for anyone who wants a laugh and families. Critics rate it higher than audiences do, so it rewards patience more than it chases thrills.
The mood: Light and funny, feel-good.
The pace: 4 seasons, but most episodes stand on their own, so you can dip in anywhere (about 30 minutes each).
What might put you off: Rated TV-14. Probably too much for younger kids.
Audiences were cooler on it than critics.

James "Jimmy" Chance is a clueless 24-year-old who impregnates a serial killer during a one-night-stand. Earning custody of his daughter after the mother is sentenced to death, Jimmy relies on his oddball but well-intentioned family for support in raising the child.
