Saturday Special

Why it’s a Saturday Special

Critics rank it among the best shows ever made and people are still talking about it. A strong pick for the weekend.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Who'll love it: Made for anyone who wants a laugh. Critics rate it higher than audiences do, so it rewards patience more than it chases thrills.
The mood: Light and funny.
The pace: 11 seasons, but most episodes stand on their own, so you can dip in anywhere (about 22 minutes each).
What might put you off: Made in 1974: an older pace and style.
Audiences were cooler on it than critics.

In 1950s Milwaukee the Cunningham family must contend with Fonzie, a motorcycle riding Casanova.
