Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
A natural pick for people who like the journey more than the destination and fans of a well-timed joke. It's a road trip, so the detours matter as much as the destination. Sits nicely alongside Barbie or Mary Poppins.
The mood
Light and funny.
The pace
Breezy, at 1 hr 31 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Portuguese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Not the pick if you want something heavy or meaningful.

While the country is under the yoke of a military junta and corrupt priests preach the apocalypse, a lawless, eccentric family – a kind of Bonnie & Clyde with kids – trek through the Brazilian interior. Their first aim is to deliver a consignment of weapons to a group of militant nuns who have withdrawn to the jungle, living off the income from their cannabis plantation. As gay , bi, trans, the converts so organized to make revolution.
