Why it’s a Sunday Safe Bet

It earned strong reviews (64 on Metacritic), though it had a lukewarm 6.9 out of 10 from audiences and a small audience. A safe bet when you want something reliable.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Made for crime-drama fans and anyone who likes to be kept guessing. If you loved Tell Me Lies, start here. Critics rate it higher than audiences do, so it rewards patience more than it chases thrills.
The mood
Tense, dark and gritty.
The pace
One season: easy to finish in a weekend or two, hour-long episodes, about 4 hours in all.
What might put you off
Audiences were cooler on it than critics.

A prisoner on death row in the US, a vicar in a quiet English town, and a maths teacher trapped in a cellar cross paths in the most unexpected way.
